A story of a junior in High School (I’m presuming that means she is 17) who goes by the name of Juno, taken on by the very talented actress Ellen Page. I’m guessing you’re likely to see this girl in dozens and dozens of things over the next 10years. The story effectively unfolds from the beginning where we find out Juno is pregnant all because of the chair seduction method she pulled on Beaker (Michael Cera – Superbad). Tempted to get an abortion Juno gets put off the idea because her 2 month old foetus has finger nails according to “Sue Chin” – the High School Anti Abortion campaigner. So because of this revelation the charismatic Juno is off sex decides with the aid of her feisty cheerleading best friend to find a family who is seeking a child to adopt. This is where the story really takes hold and heads in a really compelling direction. We see Jason Bateman as the Wannabe Rock Star who is approaching father hood with the aid of a private ad (desperately seeking spawn) with the ever gorgeous Jennifer Garner.
Juno as you know won the Oscar for best screenplay and rightly so but at the same time this surprised me – why aren’t there other screenplays out there with this amount of quirky dialogue? My guess – within the year there will be an avalanche of scripts like this over the next couple of years and as long as they don’t imitate to the extreme I don’t mind Hollywood going down this direction. I highly recommend this enjoyable film – go see if you haven’t already done so.
